Kenya is a key regional partner of the Africa Institute, collaborating on several high-impact environmental projects. By implementing national and transboundary initiatives, Kenya works to eliminate toxic chemical pollutants, mitigate industrial impacts, and establish integrated health and environment monitoring systems.

National Action Plans for ASGM

Regional project on the Development of National Action Plans for the Artisanal and Small-scale gold mining in Africa, identifying strategies to reduce mercury contamination.

Focus: Mercury Reduction & Health Safety

Scope: 8 African Countries (incl. Kenya)

Ongoing Stockholm NIP

Stockholm Convention NIP Update

Assisting Kenya in reviewing and updating its National Implementation Plans (NIPs) to address and manage newly listed Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) under the Stockholm Convention.

Focus: POPs & NIP Update

Scope: Uganda, Zimbabwe, Seychelles, Kenya, Zambia, Ethiopia, Gambia
